GAYLE'S BUTTERMILK BROWNIES 
1 stick butter
1/4 c. cocoa
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. water
1/2 c. Crisco
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda

Combine butter, water, cocoa, and Crisco in saucepan. Bring to a boil. Pour over combined flour, sugar and salt. Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda and vanilla. Mix well. Pour into 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x inch pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Serves 30.

FROSTING:

1 stick butter
1/3 c. buttermilk
1 (1 lb.) box powdered sugar, sifted
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. cocoa

Combine butter, cocoa, and buttermilk in saucepan and bring to a boil. Add powdered sugar and vanilla. Pour over warm brownies. Cornstarch may be added to thicken.
