GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1 (4 oz.) pkg. German chocolate
1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. buttermilk

Melt chocolate in boiling water; cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add yolks, one at a time, beating well after each. Blend in vanilla and chocolate. Mix flour with soda and salt; add alternately with milk to chocolate mixture, beating after each addition until smooth. Fold in whites. Pour into 3 (9-inch) cake pans.

Bake at 350°F for 30 to 35 minutes.

Frosting:

1 c. evaporated milk
1 c. sugar
3 slightly beaten egg yolks
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/3 c. coconut
1 c. chopped pecans

Combine ingredients (except coconut and pecans). Cook and stir over medium heat until thick, about 10 to 12 minutes. Add coconut and pecans.
