DOUBLE DIVINITY 
2 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. corn syrup
1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. salt
2 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. walnuts, optional

Combine sugar, syrup, water and salt. Cook over medium heat to 248 degrees (on candy thermometer). Beat whites until stiff. Pour 1/2 boiled mixture over whites, beating slowly. Continue to cook other mixture to 272 degrees. Beating constantly, slowly pour over whites. Beat several minutes with mixer. Then beat with wooden spoon until mixture has dull, satin appearance and consistency is thick. Drop by teaspoon onto buttered wax paper.
