BROWN SUGAR COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1 well beaten egg
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. nuts
1 c. light brown sugar
1 3/4 c. plain flour
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Add all remaining ingredients. Form into rolls 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter. Wrap in waxed paper. Refrigerate several hours. Slice and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake 350 degrees 12 to 15 minutes.
