CREAM OF BROCCOLI SOUP 
1 1/2 qts. (6 c.) water
10 1/2 oz. pkg. frozen chopped broccoli
1/4 c. finely chopped onion
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. white pepper
2 tsp. monosodium glutamate
1 tsp. garlic powder (optional)
8 oz. (2 c.) American cheese, shredded
1 c. milk
1 c. cream or 2 c. half & half
1/4 c. butter
1/3 c. flour, dissolved in 1/2 c. cold water to make a paste

In 3-quart saucepan, bring water to boil. Add broccoli and onion and boil 10 to 12 minutes. Add seasonings and cheese; stir until cheese melts. Add milk, cream and butter and heat to boiling. Add flour and water paste, stirring rapidly until soup is consistency of heavy cream.
