BROWN COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar, packed
1 c. shortening, softened
1 c. cold coffee or tea (strong)
3 c. flour
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. raisins, nuts or chocolate chips

Cream together shortening, brown sugar, and eggs. Combine all dry ingredients and add alternately with liquid to the sugar mixture. Mix well. Add raisins, nuts, or chocolate chips. Spread in two large cookie pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Ice when cool.
