1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sour milk
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 c. cocoa
2 level tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. salt

Melt shortening; add sugar and cocoa which has been dissolved in boiling water. Add milk, then flour, salt, soda and flavoring. Bake in moderate oven.
