SANDTARTS 
1 c. butter
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. baking soda
4 c. flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
Almond extract (opt.)
3 tsp. water
1/4 tsp. salt
Dash of nutmeg
Egg white
Nuts, finely chopped
Cinnamon & sugar for topping

Mix together thoroughly butter, sugar and eggs. Stir in the water and flavoring. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt and nutmeg. Add to butter mixture. Roll out on well floured board and cut, or shape into a roll or bar and chill, then slice thinly. Brush each cookie with slightly beaten egg white. Sprinkle with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar and top with a few nuts. Bake in 350 degree oven until delicately brown.
