GRANDMOTHER'S BUTTERMILK BISCUITS | |
2 c. flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. shortening buttermilk (to make a soft dough) Sift flour once; measure and add dry ingredients and sift twice. Cut in shortening; add buttermilk. Roll out on floured board to 3/4-inch. Cut with biscuit cutter; place on greased pan. Bake at 450°F for 15 minutes. From the kitchen of Mary Fickes. When I was a little girl, I lived with my grandmother and bachelor uncle on a farm in Indiana. I remember my grandmother (Matilda Elizabeth Blake) cooking on a wood stove. She often baked this biscuit recipe. My aunt, Mary Fickes, also used this recipe. Very tasty. |
