SOUTHERN BUTTERMILK BISCUITS 
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
6 tbsp. shortening
2/3 c. buttermilk

Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender. Stir in buttermilk. Form mixture into a ball. Place on floured covered board and knead lightly. Roll out into 1/4 to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with a small biscuit cutter.

Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake in a 450 degree preheated oven about 8-10 minutes. Leftover biscuits are great the next day sliced in half, buttered and put under the broiler for a few minutes.

Makes 24 small biscuits.
