1 1/2 c. starter (do NOT refrigerate) 2 1/2 c. sugar 1 (29 oz.) can peaches, with juice Put the above ingredients in a large (1 gallon) glass jar or crock. Stir well, cover with loose lid or foil. Stir every day for 10 days. Then add: 2 1/2 c. sugar Stir well. Stir every day for 10 more days. Then, on the 20th day, add: 1 (20 oz.) can fruit cocktail with juice 2 1/2 c. sugar Stir well. Stir every day for 10 more days (is this starting to sound familiar?) then on the 30th day drain juice and give 1 1/2 cups to each of 6 different friends for use as starter. FOR 1 CAKE USE: 1 box yellow or white cake mix, without pudding (yellow preferred) 1 box instant vanilla pudding mix 4 eggs 2/3 c. oil 1 1/2 c. of the fruit 1 c. chopped nuts Mix the cake mix, pudding, eggs and oil together. Add fruit and nuts, folding into batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes. For bundt pan bake 60 minutes. Recipe contains enough fruit for 3 full mixes. 1 mix for a bundt pan; 1 mix for 3 small loaf pans (7 3/4 x 3 5/8 x 2 1/4); 1 mix for 2 large loaf pans (9 5/8 x 5 1/2 x 2 3/4). |
