1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. buttermilk
2 c. plain flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. candied red cherries (cut in fourths)

Mix well butter, brown sugar and egg. Add buttermilk. Sift together and stir in dry ingredients. Mix in pecans, dates and candied cherries. Chill dough 1 hour. Drop with teaspoon about 2 inches apart onto lightly greased baking sheet. Top each cookie with a pecan half or half a candied cherry. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 400 degrees (moderately hot). Makes 4 dozen.
