GINGERBREAD WITH LEMON SAUCE 
1/2 c. shortening
1/4 c. brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1/2 c. light molasses
1 1/2 c. all purpose flour
3/4 tsp. ground ginger
3/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
Lemon Sauce

1. Grease and lightly flour 1 (9" x 1 1/2") round baking pan.

2. Cream shortening and brown sugar until light. Add egg and molasses; beat well.

3. Stir together flour, spices, baking powder, soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with 1/2 cup boiling water, beating after each addition. Pour into pan.

4. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Serve with Lemon Sauce.

Serves 8.

LEMON SAUCE:

1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1/8 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. nutmeg, ground
1 c. water
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. lemon juice

1. Mix in saucepan (small) the sugar, cornstarch, salt and nutmeg.

2. Add water. Cook and stir until thick and bubbly.

3. Stir in butter and lemon juice.

4. Serve warm. Will thicken when cool.
