DATE - FILLED COOKIES 
1 c. sifted sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. sifted flour
1/3 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/3 c. sour cream

FILLING:

1 pkg. dates, cut into sm. pieces
Water

Cream butter and sugar; add egg and vanilla. Alternately add dry ingredients which have been sifted together with the sour cream. Chill dough until it is easy to handle. Roll thin and cut out in about 2 to 3 inch circles. Place small amount of filling on cookies; spread out, keeping away from edge. Put another cookie on top and press edges together. Sprinkle with granulated sugar and bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.

Filling: Cut dates into small pieces and cook in a little water until soft. Makes about 2 1/2 dozen.
