DATE FILLED COOKIES 
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
3 eggs
1 c. butter
1 c. shortening
3 c. oatmeal
2 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 2 tbsp. hot water
4 c. flour

FILLING:

2 c. dates
3/4 c. water
3/4 c. white sugar

Mix in order given. Divide dough in two. Put on wax paper and roll into logs. Freeze logs for 1 1/2 hours, then cut into slices and put date filling in between two slices. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
