3 oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/2 tsp. almond or lemon extract
1/2 tsp. salt
Assorted food coloring
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, separated
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. water

Heat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl, combine sugar, butter and cream cheese; beat well. Add vanilla, extract and egg white; blend well. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. Add flour and salt; mix well. Divide dough in half. On ungreased cookie sheet, press half of dough into a 10 x 8 inch rectangle.

In small bowl, combine reserved egg yolk and water. Divide into several small custard cups or bowls. Add food coloring to each to make several assorted colors. Using paint brushes, paint design on dough rectangle with egg yolk paints. Bake at 350 degrees for 9 to 15 minutes or until edges are set. Immediately cut rectangle with sharp knife into several pieces of varying shapes and sizes. Cool 5 minutes; remove from cookie sheet. Repeat with remaining half of dough. Makes 2 cookie puzzles.
