MOM'S APPLE COBBLER 
1/2 c. butter
2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. shortening
1/3 c. milk
1 tsp. cinnamon

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter in a baking dish. In saucepan, heat water and sugar until sugar melts. Cut shortening into flour until particles are like bread crumbs. Add milk and stir with fork only until dough leaves the side of bowl. Turn out onto lightly floured board. Roll pastry into large rectangle pan about 1/2 inch thick. Place pan with melted butter. Pour sugar syrup carefully around dish. Bake for 55-60 minutes.
