CABBAGE SLAW (HOT) 
1 med. head cabbage
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. (more or less) sugar
1/3 stick butter
Dash of red pepper
3 to 4 lbs. vinegar
1/3 c. sweet cream
1/4 tsp. black pepper

Cut cabbage and put in pot with enough water to cook the cabbage. Add salt, sugar, pepper, and butter. Cook until done, (but don't over cook). Add sweet cream and vinegar and set off. Do not reboil. (I use sour cream instead of sweet cream, and use less vinegar, about 1 tablespoon.)

This is a real old recipe.
