OLD FASHIONED STACK CAKE 
4 c. self-rising flour
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. Crisco
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. molasses
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. ginger
1 lb. dried apples

Mix all ingredients except apples. Mixture will be thick. Pour in greased and floured round cake pans. Shake cake batter from side to side so it will spread over pan, about 1/2 cup to 1 cup in each pan.

Cook apples until tender; mash and sweeten to taste. Add 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon allspice, and 1/2 teaspoon cloves. Spread over each layer of cake. Layers should be about 1/2 inch thick. Will be somewhat crusty when done.
