IRISH BROWN SODA BREAD | |
10 oz. whole meal brown flour 6 oz. white flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 - 3/4 tsp. baking soda 1/2 - 3/4 pt. buttermilk Sift flour, salt, baking soda. Mix in brown flour. Add enough milk to make a fairly soft dough. Turn onto a floured board and knead until smooth underneath. Turn up smooth side and flatten into a round about 2" thick. Place on a floured and greased baking tin and score the top (cross). Bake in a fairly hot oven, 420 degrees, for about 40 minutes, reducing the heat to moderate, 375 degrees. |
