LAYERED SALAD 
1 head of lettuce, cut bite-size
1 green pepper, chopped
1 can sliced water chestnuts
1 pkg. frozen peas
1 bunch green onions and tops, sliced
1 c. Hellmann's mayonnaise
2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 lb. cheddar cheese, grated
1 sm. jar bacon bits

Layer the first 5 ingredients in order. Spread with mayonnaise. Sprinkle sugar on mayonnaise. Spread cheddar cheese and bacon bits over all. Make a day ahead. Refrigerate at least 8 hours. Toss and serve. Serves 12.
