BATTER CAKES 
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1/4 c. cornmeal
3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda mixed in 1 tbsp. hot water

Beat eggs in milk and add meal. Leave it alone a few minutes. Add other ingredients, mixing well but not beating. Drop by spoonfuls on hot, greased griddle. Serve with plenty of butter and country syrup.
