ALL PURPOSE CAKE BATTER 
5 eggs
2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/4 c. buttermilk
2 tbsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour

Cream sugar and shortening, add eggs. Dissolve soda in buttermilk. Add plain flour to cream mixture. Add milk and mix well. Pour into 3 greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees until done. This is good for chocolate, caramel, or any type of cake.
