HOSENFLICKEN, GERMAN FRIED COOKIES | |
4 eggs 1 tbsp. sugar 1 tbsp. milk 1 tbsp. melted butter 2 cups flour Beat eggs lightly, add sugar, milk, melted butter and mix well. Add flour and knead into a lump. If too sticky, add a little more flour. Cut dough into 18 pieces, roll out paper thin to the shape and size of an 8-inch plate. Lay each piece separately on a cloth. Put 2 cups oil or melted lard into a 9-inch skillet, fry each piece in hot oil, using two forks to move edges so they look ruffled. Fry until light yellow, then turn with forks and fry on other side. Remove from pan and sprinkle with powdered sugar. (I've added cinnamon to the sugar at times.) I must give credit for this recipe to one Mrs. Henry Maushund, who submitted it to our mutual auto insurance company for their Christmas magazine issue, 35 years ago. Thank you, Mrs. Maushund, for an absolutely delicious treat -- I celebrate your life! Submitted by: Betty Hyatt |
