BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLE (MY
MOTHER'S RECIPE)
 
22 lg. cucumbers
6 lg. onion
6 - 7 green peppers
1 garlic clove
1/2 c. salt
4 qt. water
28 ice cubes
7 c. sugar
3 c. white vinegar
2 tbsp. mustard seed
2 tbsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. ground tumeric

Slice cucumbers, peppers, and onions; put in a large pan and cover with salt and water. Put ice cubes over this and let stand for 3 hours. Drain and rinse. Mix vinegar, sugar, spices and garlic (chopped); pour this mixture over the vegetables. Bring to a boil. Boil one minute. Remove from heat and pack into sterile jars. Seal. Yield about 12 pints.
