BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
1 qt. sliced cucumbers
2 sm. onions, sliced
1 tbsp. salt
Water to cover cucumbers
1 1/4 c. sugar
3/8 tsp. celery seeds
1/2 tbsp. mustard seeds
3/4 c. vinegar
3/8 tsp. turmeric

Immerse sliced cucumbers and onions in salty water for at least 3 hours, adding ice to keep it cold. Bring sugar, celery seed, mustard seed, vinegar and turmeric to a boil. Drain salty water off cucumbers and onions. Add cucumbers and onions to vinegar mixture and simmer until color changes (cucumbers). May can in hot jar or stand in covered container until ready to eat. Makes 1 quart.
