RAISIN CRISS - CROSS COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening, butter, or butter
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. raisins
1 egg
1 3/4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix shortening, sugar, egg, and extract. Blend flour, cream of tartar, soda, and salt. Stir into shortening mixture. Mix in raisins. Roll into 1 inch balls. Flatten with fork dipped in flour, making a criss-cross. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Makes 3 dozen.
