CRACKED WHEAT HONEY BREAD | |
1/2 c. lukewarm water 1 envelope dry yeast 1/2 c. honey 4 tbsp. shortening 1 c. hot milk 3/4 c. water 2 tsp. salt 1 c. cracked wheat flour Soak cracked wheat flour an hour before you start, with enough water to cover it. Add white flour to finish bread. Soak yeast in lukewarm water until dissolved. In large bowl mix honey and salt; add hot milk. Stir in some white flour and beat well. Then add yeast and melted shortening. Add soaked cracked wheat flour. Add 2 cups flour at a time and stir until stiff enough to turn out onto a floured board. Knead until you can hold in the palm of your hand 30 seconds without sticking. Let it raise until doubled in size. Knead down. On the second raising put into greased pan and let raise until ready to bake. (Keep warm - it will raise faster; cover with towel.) Bake at 375 degrees until done. |
