WOWIE CAKE 
3 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. cocoa
2 tbsp. vinegar
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. cold water
2/3 c. oil

Sift 5 dry ingredients together. Blend 4 liquid ingredients; add to dry ingredients and beat (medium) 2 minutes. Pour into ungreased 13x9 pan. Bake 40-45 minutes at 350 degrees.

After cooled, leave in pan and frost with mock whipped cream icing or powdered sugar.

MOCK WHIPPED CREAM ICING:

1 c. milk
5 tbsp. flour

Heat slowly to thicken, then let cool.

Cream together: 1/2 c. shortening 1/2 tsp. salt

Add the cooled milk to creamed mix and add: 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Beat to whip cream consistency.

I remember this recipe from an old school fundraising cookbook. I made it when my kids were young. You can even mix it all in the pan. I resurrected it when my granddaughter developed an egg allergy and couldn't have the traditional birthday cake. She has since outgrown the allergy, but they still look for the Wowie cake!
