APPLE PIE | |
6 tart apples 3/4 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 tsp. apple pie spice 1/2 tsp. lemon rind 2 tbsp. flour 1/2 lemon 1/4 c. melted butter 2 (9 inch) unbaked pie shells Wash, peel, and core apples, then cut into thin slices. Squeeze juice from the 1/2 lemon over apples to coat and keep from turning brown. In a small mixing bow., mix together 1/2 cup sugar, all spices, lemon rind, and flour. Put apples in dry ingredients and stir well to coat each slice. Then place in unbaked pie shell, pour melted butter over the top, sprinkle with remaining sugar. Put strips of crust over apples, dot with butter. Bake in preheated hot oven at 450 degrees for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue baking for about 25 minutes or until apples are tender. |
