GRANDMOTHER'S FRESH APPLE CAKE 
1 1/2 c. vegetable oil
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. raisins
3 eggs
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. diced raw apples
1 c. chopped walnuts

Dust apples, raisins and nuts with some of the flour, set aside. Blend oil, sugar and slightly beaten eggs. Sift together remaining flour, salt, soda; add to egg mixture. Fold in coated apples, nuts, and raisins with 1 teaspoon vanilla. Stir well. Turn into 10 inch greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 325 for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until done.

SAUCE FOR FRESH APPLE CAKE:

1/2 c. buttermilk
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 stick butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine ingredients, boil rapidly for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour over cake in pan while cake is still hot. Leave in pan several hours before removing.
