LANE CAKE 
1 c. sugar
8 egg whites
1 c. butter
2 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1 c. milk

Cream sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add vanilla then dry ingredients with milk beating until smooth. Fold in stiff egg whites, don't beat until dry. Fold in mixture. Pour into 4 lined and greased 9 inch pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Cool on rack before icing. Best after several days.

FROSTING:

8 egg yolks
1 1/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 c. chopped pecans
1 c. raisins
1 c. milk
1 c. shredded coconut
1 c. chopped cherries
1/4 tsp. salt
1/3 c. bourbon or rye whiskey

Mix eggs, sugar and milk. Cook 5 minutes. Remove add rest. Let stand until cool before spreading.
