MISSISSIPPI MUD CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
4 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
1/3 c. cocoa
3 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts, chopped
1/4 tsp. vanilla

Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and beat by hand. Sift flour, cocoa and salt. Mix with above mixture. Add vanilla and nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes in a greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan, or 30 minutes in a sheet cake pan. Cake will pull loose from pan when done. While cake is hot, cover with marshmallow cream.

TOPPING:

1 stick butter, melted
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. evaporated milk
1 (1 lb.) powdered sugar
1/3 c. cocoa
1 c. nuts, chopped
1 (7 oz.) jar marshmallow cream

Sift together sugar and cocoa, and mix with melted butter. Add other ingredients and spread on cake while hot.
