1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 egg
1 3/4 c. cake flour
1 c. raisins or nuts or both
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 c. (hot) applesauce

Cream sugar and butter. Add egg, raisins or nuts. Add all dry ingredients. HEAT applesauce and add last. Bake in 350 degree oven until top touches firm, or toothpick comes out clean. Bake in 8 inch square or loaf pan.
