ORANGE ALMOND SALAD 
1 head Romaine lettuce
1 sm. head lettuce (Iceberg)
1/2 c. green onion, chopped
1 c. celery, chopped
1 can drained mandarin oranges
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. slivered almonds

Mix lettuces, onion and celery. Melt sugar in heavy skillet and brown almonds. (Doesn't take long.) To assemble, pour sweet 3/4 cup dressing over greens, drained oranges and broken up browned almonds.

I like to use the poppy seed dressing mix but omit poppy seeds.

POPPY SEED DRESSING:

3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp. salt
1/3 c. vinegar
1/3 c. grated onion
1 c. salad oil
1 tbsp. poppy seeds

Mix sugar, mustard, salt and vinegar. Add onion. Slowly add, beating constantly, 1 cup oil. Continue beating until thick. Stir in poppy seeds. Store in refrigerator.
