VEGETABLE SOUP 
1 lb. lean soup meat
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 c. chopped tomatoes
1 c. sliced okra
1/3 c. chopped celery
1 c. carrots, diced
1/2 turnip, chopped
1 tbsp. chopped parsley
1/2 tsp. chopped thyme
1 bay leaf
2 c. corn
2 qts. water
Salt and pepper
1 tsp. oil

Heat oil in soup pot and fry meat, onion and green pepper. When onions begin to color add okra, turnip, carrots and cook 2 minutes longer. Add all other ingredients except corn. Cover; simmer four hours. Put in corn; cook another hour.
