CHICKEN AND DUMPLINGS 
1 (2-3 lb.) chicken
1 sm. onion
2 c. flour
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4-1 c. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1-1 1/2 c. milk
1 c. cream of chicken soup

Boil chicken with onion until tender. Bone chicken. Make dumpling dough using flour, shortening, egg, soda, salt, and buttermilk. Add boned chicken and soup to chicken broth; bring to a boil. Roll dough thin and cut into small strips. Drop into broth; cook until tender. Add milk; bring to boil again.
