MOTHER'S TAFFY | |
3 c. brown sugar (1 1/2 boxes) 1/2 c. dark Karo 1/4 c. cold water 2 tbsp. vinegar 4 tbsp. butter 1 tsp. vanilla Boil sugar, molasses, water and vinegar until crisp in cold water (until strings form). Then add butter, cook slowly about 7 minutes. Add vanilla. Don't beat it. Pour on buttered plate on which walnuts have been laid. After it sets, loosen it from plate and crack taffy into pieces with knife handle. Can also butter hands and pull the taffy when it is warm enough to handle. Pull taffy until it is light in color. Then braid it and cut into pieces with scissors. Wrap pieces in wax paper. |
