CHEESE DISH | |
8 slices bread, crusts removed (cut each slice in 4 pieces) 1/2 lb. pkg. Old English sharp cheese (cut each slice in 4 pieces) 6 eggs Salt to taste Pepper 1 pt. milk Place layers of bread and cheese in buttered casserole. Beat eggs with milk and pour this over the layers of bread and cheese. Let stand in refrigerator overnight or several hours. When ready to bake, add 1/2 cup of melted butter. Bake 1 hour at 300 degrees. Cut in squares or spoon out and serve with rich white sauce. Excellent brunch or luncheon dish served with sausage or Canadian bacon. (I use a 10 or 12 inch square Corning Ware dish so that it can be transferred from cold to hot oven. The next best pan would be a large square cake pan.) |
