2/3 c. milk 3 tbsp. all-purpose flour 6 tbsp. butter 5 tbsp. shortening 2/3 c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla (lemon) Cook milk and flour on medium heat until thick. Cool. Cream together butter, shortening and sugar well. Add cooled flour mixture to creamed mixture. Beat well until fluffy and sugar is dissolved. Add vanilla. CHOCOLATE: Add 4 tablespoons of cocao in second step. Decrease vanilla to 1/2 teaspoon. MOCHA: Add 1 tablespoon instant coffee and 4 tablespoons cocao in second step. BUTTERSCOTCH: Use brown sugar instead of white sugar. BANANA: Reduce milk to 1/3 cup; increase vanilla to 1 1/2 teaspoon; add 1/3 cup mashed bananas with vanilla in last step. CHOCOLATE BUTTERSCOTCH: 4 tablespoons cocao and brown sugar instead of white in second step; decrease vanilla to 1/2 teaspoon. CREAM CHEESE: Substitute 2 to 6 tablespoons cream cheese for 2 to 6 tablespoons of butter. CHOCOLATE CREAM CHEESE: Make as for Chocolate, but substitute 6 tablespoons of cream cheese for butter (no distinct cream cheese taste, but tastes very good). A quick and easy frosting when you don't have 10X sugar on hand. It stays soft and tastes like whipped cream. |
