CHOCOLATE PIE 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. cornstarch
4 c. milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
4 tbsp. cocoa
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. butter
Baked pie shell
Meringue (recipe follows)

To make pudding, mix all dry ingredients together, then add milk. Cook, stirring constantly, over medium heat until pudding comes to a boil. Boil 1 minute longer. Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla. Pour into baked pie shell and cover with meringue. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes or until golden brown.

MERINGUE:

4 egg whites
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 c. sugar

Beat egg whites and cream of tartar together until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar and beat at high speed until stiff peaks form. Pile lightly on pie and bake until brown.
