FUDGE-FILLED SQUARES 
1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. oats
2 1/2 c. uncooked oats

FILLING:

1 (12 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1 (15 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla

13x9 inch pan. 350 degrees. 35-40 minutes.

For cookie base and topping, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in egg and vanilla. Add combined flour, soda and salt. Mix well. Stir in oats. Press half of mixture onto bottom of greased pan. Reserve remaining mixture for topping.

For filling, melt chocolate, condensed milk, butter and salt in heavy saucepan over low heat until smooth. Stir in nuts and vanilla. Spread evenly over base mixture. Sprinkle reserved topping mixture evenly over chocolate layer. Press down slightly. Bake. Cool and cut into squares. Makes 36+.
