FRENCH ONION SOUP 
8 thinly sliced onions
6 tbsp. butter
4 tbsp. flour
2 c. dry white wine
1 lg. can chicken broth
French bread
Cheddar or mozzarella cheese
1/2 tsp. garlic

Saute onions in butter. Add flour, garlic and sugar. Cook over medium heat until mixture is golden brown. Add parsley, thyme, chicken broth and white wine. Simmer 45 minutes.

Toast French bread and butter. Pour soup into ovenproof bowls. Put bread and cheese on top. Place under broiler until cheese bubbles. Preparation time 30 minutes.
