1 can of lye 2 qts. lard 1/2 c. ammonia 2 tbsp. Borax Heat the lard. Add lye that has been dissolved in 1 quart cold water overnight. Stir for 15 minutes. Add the ammonia and Borax which has been dissolved in 1/2 cup of warm water. Stir until thick. The lard can be quite warm. Pour into enamel pan or cardboard box - when set cut into squares - season for 2 months before use. Got this from a friend - it has never failed me. |
