1 lb. chopped pitted dates
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. sugar
Cook until thick, stirring constantly, cool. 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1 1/2 c. butter 1 c. brown sugar 1 c. white sugar 4 eggs, well beaten 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. chopped nuts
Cream butter and sugars. Add eggs; mix well. Sift flour with soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture. Chill 1/2 hour. Turn out on floured surface. Divide into 3 pieces, roll each into a rectangle 1/2 inch thick. Combine dates with nuts and spread over dough. Roll like jelly roll. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill. Slice 1/2 inch thick. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 400 degrees for 7-8 minutes.
