GERMAN CHOCOLATE BROWNIES 
BROWNIES:

1/2 c. butter
1 (4 oz.) bar sweet cooking chocolate, chopped
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt

TOPPING:

2 tbsp. butter, melted
1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
2 tbsp. corn syrup
2 tbsp. milk
1 c. coconut
1/2 c. finely chopped pecans or walnuts

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 8 or 9-inch square pan. In medium saucepan melt 1/2 cup butter and chocolate over low heat, stirring constantly. Cool slightly. Add sugar and vanilla; blend well. Add eggs; beat well. Add flour, baking powder and salt; mix well.

Spread in greased pan. Bake 18-26 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove brownies; turn oven to broil. Meanwhile, in small bowl combine 2 tablespoons butter, brown sugar, corn syrup and milk; blend well. Stir in coconuts and pecans.

Drop mixture over warm brownies; spread gently. Broil 4 inches form heat for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until bubbly. Cool completely; cut into bars. Yield 16 bars.
