BEAN SOUP 
1 lb. northern beans
1 lg. onion, diced
1 tsp. salt
1 c. cubed ham or pork
1 lg. carrot, grated
1/8 tsp. garlic salt or powder

Clean and sort beans; put in large pot with 8 cups of water, meat, onions, carrot, salt, and garlic. Bring to a boil and lower heat to simmer approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Serve with hot cornbread.
