HOLIDAY CUT OUT COOKIES 
1 c. butter (do not substitute)
1 c. powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt

Cream butter and sugar; add egg and vanilla. Mix flour and salt and add to creamed mixture. Chill at least 2 hours. Roll out on floured surface to 1/8-inch thick. Cut out and bake at 325°F approximately 10 minutes. Do not let cookies get brown.

Icing:

3 egg whites
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 lb. powdered sugar

Beat egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff. Add powdered sugar. Color with food coloring, if desired.
