ICE BOX COOKIES WITH DATE
FILLINGS
 
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. butter or lard (I use butter)
1/4 tsp. salt
3 eggs
4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten eggs. Sift flour, soda, and salt. Add to mixture; cool and roll.

DATE FILLING:

1 lb. dates, cut fine
1 c. sugar
1 c. water

Cook until thick. Cool and spread over dough. Roll up. Wrap in wax paper. Set in ice overnight. Cut in slices. Bake at 350 degrees.

NOTE: This is a very old recipe and is also very large. I usually cut it in half.
