9 tbsp. shortening
3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. white sugar or 1/2 c. molasses
3 eggs
3 3/4 c. flour
1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
3 1/4 tsp. ginger
1 1/2 c. buttermilk

Measure out 2/3 cup of the butter for each layer and it will make 7 layers. Bake at 375 degrees until light brown. Spice the applesauce as you like with cinnamon, ginger, or vanilla flavor, to taste and put between layers.
